About Us
The pre-history of Urban Mapping dates to 2003 with the introduction of the award-winning Panamap. The company was created in 2006 to service the needs of interactive publishers demanding high-value localized content. Our flagship product, URBANWARE Neighborhoods, is used by all major portals, yellow pages sites and a leading collection of mobile and social applications.
In 2007 we released the first of our APIs-- a SOAP-based web service to offer our neighborhoods database in a low overhead way. Unfortunately the developer community assaulted us for using enterprise-standard protocols. We quickly retooled and launched the first of our RESTful APIs in early 2008. The company built on its core research expertise, sourcing highly-detailed spatial (and attribute-laden) databases for mass transit and off-street parking. Also in 2008 we re-released the Panamap, updating the NYC title and adding Chicago.
By 2009 Urban Mapping had developed Routeserver, a robust multi-modal routing engine, and began to position the company as a hosted geoservices provider. In January 2010 we introduced Mapfluence, our on-demand geoservices platform. The evolution of the company, from data aggregation to interactive delivery of content to on the fly analysis and visualization, has attracted kudos from industry pundits and competitors.
