Mass Transit
Urban Mapping Mass Transit provides data on public transportation systems for organizations looking to create customer-facing transportation applications and trip planners. Data for public transportation systems is notoriously idiosyncratic, difficult to extract or sometimes even unpublished. While most mass transit systems do provide public information regarding services, the task of standardizing the information in a transportation application is a challenge.

Urban Mapping offers beautiful cartography and extensive, detailed mass transit data that is continuously updated and packaged with an easy-to-implement API.
CoStar Group
Urban Mapping has aggregated and normalized disparate data sets from hundreds of transit systems enabling developers to easily create accurate and highly useful transportation applications to ease trip planning. Additionally, Urban Mapping offers regular updates and real-time service interruption alerts.
Urban Mapping's services and expertise place them at the forefront of transportation information services, offering assistance with web-based initiatives to transit agencies and operators themselves. Features include:
Detailed Attribute Data
Locations of system, line, station and individual entrances/exits as well as accessibility notes, escalators, elevators, operating hours, attendant booths and hours, bike lockers, restrooms, parking (hours, number of spaces, cost), shelter information, retail amenities, station cafes and much more.
Data model Expertise
Formatting native schedules into a standard is a necessary prerequisite for broad distribution. Urban Mapping’s UMITFS, Google’s GTFS and other formats accomplish this. We conduct extensive schedule testing and validation using a variety of automated tools to ensure schedule data accurately reflect what you intend.
International Coverage
Urban Mapping maintains mass transit data on fixed rails (subway, commuter rail, light rail, intercity) for over 200 systems in the United States, Canada and an expanding collection of European systems.
Real-time alerts with Incident Manager
Buses and trains don’t always run on time. It’s an unfortunate but unavoidable fact. Transit agencies make this information available in a variety of ways—email alerts, twitter, RSS, text messages, Facebook—but you don’t want to spend your day monitoring. We do. Urban Mapping monitors transit-related events and publishes to customers for both consumer-focused solutions and/or internal communications.
Travelshed Modeling
Urban Mapping's expertise in data collection led to the creation of a drive time service that incorporates walking, public transportation and driving. Given an origin, departure time and mode, developers are able to generate polygons that represent the custom area. The resulting territory can be used as the basis for making decisions about commercial property or site selection in real estate or other industries.
